[ Cue the wink, before she turns back to face the counter and go back to preparing the food. ]

Why don't you grab the beer so we can get started on them? It won't be long till the food's ready.

[ He gives a quick salute, though it goes unseen when she turns. ]

Sir, yes, sir.

[ He retrieves the drinks as asked, and as he moves over to the table, he eyes the gift on his usual seat. He doesn't usually get gifts -- not without some kind of catch, anyway. Usually it's, "Here's your ship, Quill. Expect a call from us soon." Or, "You can have these guns, boy, so long as you keep runnin' the jobs as well as you have been." There's always some weird, hidden stipulation.

A part of him still sort of expects a caveat, though he tries his best to bury it down. He's always been a paranoid bastard. ]

What do you usually do on your birthday, anyway?

[ That actually gives her a bit of pause. It was much of this same fanfare, in the past, only a little more subdued. Keiji wasn't nearly as into the celebratory antics as she was, but there would still be flowers (albeit in a vase and not all over the place), dinner, a present. ]

Did you mean me, specifically, or people in general? Because I'm pretty sure most people at least have a drink on their birthday.

Well, that goes without saying. Mostly I meant you, though.

How does the galaxy's best thief celebrate the day of her birth? Do you, like, steal something extra cool? Or do you take a break?

[ She hums thoughtfully. ]

A bit of both. Who says I can't steal something extra cool and then take a break just like this one?

I feel like you really oughta pick one of those and go with it. You're makin' the rest of us look bad, you know?

[ She chuckles. ]

Okay, fine. I pick break.

[ At another point in time she might have opted for stealing something extra cool, but lately she's learned the importance of taking a breather once in a while (due in no small part to Peter). ]

[ He laughs a little softly. ]

And here I thought you'd try to, like, figure out how to steal the torch from the Statue of Liberty.

[ And she laughs at that, turning around with their two plates of food in each arm, before she makes her way over to the table to set them down. ]

You know, I've wondered what happened to Lady Liberty's head after I killed Hock. I hope it's okay. He had a lot of other great pieces in his vault too.

[ ... Like Michelangelo's David. Shit. She should go back and get that. ]

Yeah? I mean, I gotta figure most of that stuff was stolen, right? Probably got commandeered by the authorities or whatever.

Which means it's probably rotting in a vault being watched by "top men."

[ She sighs. ]

What a waste of a great collection. He had the David, you know. Big tall marble statue of a naked guy?

[ He smiles, then waves a hand vaguely around the room. ]

Let's say you managed to rescue it. Where would you see yourself putting it? In the kitchen? Living room?

You know...

[ She's thought about it. She still has the Mona Lisa, after all, and she hasn't had it in her to try and find a buyer for it in the middle of the Reaper War. It felt wrong, despite the fact that such a piece has likely exponentially increased in value with Earth being "a sure goner" to the rest of the galaxy. ]

I've actually think I'd give it back, if this war ever ends. Same with Miss Lisa.

[ Maybe it's just her, but maybe it would be nice for humans to have back some pretty important pieces of history back with them, considering the rest might well be destroyed when this is all over. ]

[ Thaaat surprises him into silence, actually, and he just blinks at her for a moment.

But then he smiles a little. ]

That's seriously taking Robin Hood'ing to the next level. Like leaving a little orphaned baby on someone's doorstep, only they're priceless works of art.

It is, isn't it? Guess I'm getting soft or something.

[ She sighs, feigning disappointment. ]

[ He gives her a sympathetic sort of pout and pats her gently on her hand. ]

There, there, Goto. Not all of us can be hardened criminals like me, you know?

[ Which she returns with a quirk of her brow and a smirk on her face. ]

You're right. It's a shame that I have to be so nice. How can you even stand to be with someone as saintly as I am?

[ As she says that, she's moving over to grab Peter's present from his chair. After he opens it, he's really going to think she's a saint. ]

[ He watches her progress with undisguised interest, eyes roving over her. When her attention is back on him, he shoots her a sly smile. ]

Oh, I dunno. I've found ways to cope.

[ She shakes her head and rolls her eyes at him, as usual, before she holds out the present. ]

Well, you're going to have to cope with this, Star-Lord. You ready for this?

[ She's not really giving him a choice, but damn it, she wants to see his reaction.

(Because it's a genuine, carefully-preserved framed and autographed poster of Kevin Bacon. Don't ask how she would've gotten it. It's just easier this way.) ]

[ He takes it from her with a quick, questioning look. ]

Seriously, man, everything you've done tonight is enough. You didn't have to get me anything.

[ Still, he's smiling a little sheepishly -- he seems pleased, at least, as he's tearing the wrapping paper, and--

He laughs. ]

Holy fucking shit, Kasumi. How did you get this? [ Too bad, he's totally asking. ]

Very carefully.

[ Non-answers 2k... wait... what year is it... ]

But, really. I just cashed in a few favors from some old business partners. Turns out, you're not the only Kevin Bacon enthusiast in this day and age.

[ He's still laughing a little, but he sets it aside carefully, moving to place a kiss on the corner of her mouth. ]

That's-- this is seriously amazing. Best birthday ever.

[ She lets out a little laugh at that, but then she looks at him with a genuine smile. Excited as she had been to see his reaction, really she's just glad if she's making him happy. ]

I'm glad if you like it, Peter.

[ A beat. ] Though maybe I shouldn't have pulled out all the stops. It's going to be hard topping this one next year.

[ The implication of the half-joke being, of course, that she hopes they'd still be alive and together in a year's time. ]

[ He smiles at that (and it's funny, really, after living day-to-day for so long that thinking of another year with Kasumi doesn't scare him.

He's looking forward to it, even.) ]

Tip for next time?

[ He gestures with a tilt of his head to the bed. ]

Maybe not as many petals?
